Sunny Sunday

Very windy though! Spent most of the day in bed catching up on missed sleep from the week and last night's shenanigans! Decided to wear my new grey flowery leggings from Topshop. It is surprising that the leggings fit (and a size smaller!) when not much else in the store does. I guess it's the stetchy quality. Also got more new purchases that I shall be wearing this week for work.

Today's outfit:

Cardigan: Primark

Tunic: Dorothy Perkins

Leggings: Topshop

Brogues: Primark

Just dance!

Not a Jai ho reference but talking about the Wii Just Dance game which was played over and over last night at my friend's house. Lots of drinking, snacking and generally having a good time! As we weren't going out I decided to dress down but still had to have sequins:

Carried away

I know, I know. Cliché. But it is the release of SATC 2 today so I think I can be forgiven. Trying to arrange a viewing despite reading bad reviews everywhere. I couldn't help but wonder . . . why film critics can't accept the film at face value and keep berating it for not being as funny, plot focused etc as before?

Today was the end of my first week at work. It has been tiring but is keeping me out of trouble and from lazing around the house, which is a good thing I'm assured! I've ordered a shed load of clothes this week, for work I hasten to add and wore some of them today:

Necklace: Accessorize

Shirt: Evans

Tee: H&M

Belt: Primark

Peg leg trousers: Next

Shoes: River Island

Pretty in pink

Nearing the end of work week 1 and managing to keep the outfit interest level up, which is mostly thanks to the ma today for the gorgeous dress so thank you mummy! My intention was to wear it pink lady style with black shirt and attitude but decided against it and also the ballerina look. Thus fancy dress was avoided! It seems a bit too early to subject my colleagues to the full Nadia look so am easing them in.

More rehearsals tonight so am thoroughly knackered but only one more day to go before the weekend! Yay!

Today's outfit:

Pearls: Primark

Tank: Primark

Print dress: Primark

Cardigan: Topshop

Almost but not quite

So I took my first ever driving test today . . . and failed. I got 6 minors which was really good, my turn in the road and parellel park were great but I got one serious fault. I moved off when the lights were changing from amber to red so I failed. To be honest there was a learner in front and I was paying more attention to them than on the road, silly Nadia. Apart from that I was pleased with my general driving. Oh well, better luck next time. Speaking of luck I decided to wear the same outfit I wore when I took my driving theory in some kind of superstitious way to help me. I don't believe in it and apparently it doesn't believe in me. Here I am before the test:

Another tiring day at work and now it appears I am ill, seem to be developing flu so another early night in the hope that it will be better in the morning. Outfit was a rush job today and went for dressy top but casual on the bottom half. (Apologies for blurry photo):

"Working 9 til 5"

What a way to make a living! I'm completely shattered after my first day at my new job in the city. Most of it was spent trying to get online and changing every password possible! There is no dresscode so it will the start of a new challenge for me, working a different look everyday. One that is both smart but in a cool, kitch way. Today's outfit:

Shades: ASOS

Cardigan: F+F

Dress: F+F

Necklace: Primark

Bracelet: H&M

Busy, busy bee

An action packed day yesterday: showing people round our "show home", taking the ma to see Susan and Darren and then going into town with friends! All means that I spent most of today in bed recovering and catching up on sleep before tomorrow. I am officially starting work after an early morning driving lesson so I think it will be early nights from now on. Lots of denim and flashy brooches:

Gingham dress (worn as over jacket): F+F

Red slipper brooch: Lisa Angel

Cherry brooch: gift from the sis

Horse brooch: River Island

White tank: H&M

Shorts: Dorothy Perkins

Socks: Topshop

Shorts in the city

Today is a first for this year: the first time I wore shorts! It has been getting hotter and hotter this week and today was even worse! I was a sweaty betty before I even left the house (so not a good look) so had to resort to a tee and shorts. I was weary of the shorts as I still have scars on my knees from when I fell over last year and of course the tee exposed my lovely bingo wing arms but the heat was too much and I thought "to hell with it!". You know what? It was fine! I think you do reach a point where the sheer practicality of the situation forces you to be brave and flash the flesh!

My outfit was an attempt at kitchy cool pairing the shorts with ankle socks and raffia style flats:

Tee: New Look

Necklaces: Primark and Peacocks

Shorts: Dorothy Perkins

Socks: Tesco

As the show is fast approaching rehearsals now include Thursday as well as Friday in an attempt to get the performance up to scratch! Cue more leggings and elasticated clothing:

"Have you met Susan and Darren?"

No? Well you should! Just been to see them perform their uniquely fabulous show at the Curve. It would be hard to guess what to expect from a show that invites you to join Susan and her (real life) son Darren at their house for a party. My friend and I ended up being part of the show and were put to work making sandwiches! A throughly enjoyable and surprising evening.
The Curve is probably one of the most modern theatre venues in the country along with Sadlers Wells. It showcases a wide variety of performances and supports lesser known companies. All of this means that the dress code isn't as formal as you would imagine for other venues. The balance in being dressy but not try hard is something I am still working on. The outfit I chose for tonight was my attempt at dressy casual:

Scarf dress: River Island

Necklace: Peacocks

Tee: Dorothy Perkins

Leggings: New Look

Silver pumps: Primark

If in doubt, chuck it out!

So I did! Not literally but into a charity bag which is now nearly full with clothes. It always feels really good to get rid of stuff because my wardrobes are full to bursting which is not good. I then decided to organise everything so tops, skirts and dresses have all been separated and arranged by colour. What a geek.

"All things bright and beautiful"

Managed to get out and enjoy the sunshine today instead of spending all day doing Cindy chores before nightfall. Wore gorgeous new dress from fashion house Tesco! They have been so kind as to provide me with many, many lovely dresses, including this one (check out the retro print!):

Jai ho: crisis

Trouble at mill. The entire cast of dancers and actors sat down tonight to discuss the show and the issues there are at the moment. But fear not dear heart we are working to resolve them and get the show ready on time! The answer seems to be discipline, not liked but needed at this stage. More fame-style clothes for prancing and dancing around:

Cardigan: Evans

"There may be trouble ahead . . . . "

So that smug, red faced, marshmellow impersonator is the new Prime minister. Be afraid, be very afraid! Things are going to get much worse and with dozey Nick Clegg as his deputy the stability of this country is not looking good. Watched in awe as Gordon Brown delivered his last speech outside no.10 and headed for Buckingham Palace. Good old Gordon, dignified to the last. If it was me I'd crying and shouting obcenities at Cameron, but hey that's just me.

The ability to put together an outfit is a skill that takes time to develop. The fun of it comes from adding things on the hop, like today when my outfit ended up looking quite cute and kitch with lots of colour:

Pink Earrings: Primark

Necklace: Tatty Devine

Cardigan: Warehouse

Spotty tee: River Island

White tank: H&M

Trousers: River Island

"It's a small world after all"

Another Monday morning at the jobcentre but this time I had good news for them regarding my job! Everyone was thrilled and congratulated me, which was nice but I suspect they were happier than me as I am back into work and helping them reach their targets.

Ran into one of my classmates from primary school this afternoon, a very surreal experience. he was just as lovely as ever and so cute! I remember all the girls crushing on him and being jealous when one got to play Mary next to him as Joseph in the nativity play. My mum did the usual "mum" thing of saying "I remember when you were this big", ha ha ha!

In other news I decided to dye my hair yesterday with surprising results! As my hair is almost black it doesn't take colour easily but since having found beauty supply chain "Sallys" I have had much more luck. There you can buy professional hair dye rather than the ready mixed ones in the shops. So a bix of mixing later my hair is now a sort of redish colour which I am getting used to! It's been ages since I coloured all my hair. Anyway here is the result:

"I don't think you're ready for this jelly"

This jelly being the contemporary production of Salome witnessed tonight. The adaption of Oscar Wilde's play, featuring the dance of the seven veils, has been transformed into a debaucherous re-telling for the modern stage. The fact that the dance has been replaced by the actress Salome shaking her booty to Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" shows how the play is attempting to reach a more youthful audience. In my opinion it did not achieve success as the irony was lost on most of the older audience members, but I enjoyed it!

The outfit I decided to wear tonight had been rejected earlier in the week as it was too dressy but seemed appropriate for the theatre (Carrie Bradshaw eat your heart out!):

Jai ho: update

"There's no business like showbusiness, like no business I know"

The rehearsals for the show are progressing well. I now have an acting part and lines to learn! The dances are pretty much done and we now have some boys to work on the fight scene instead of imposters posing as boys. Just 5 weeks to go until the performance so it's full steam ahead! Decided today to wear one of the grandmama's pieces:

Velvet tunic: Granny's vintage

Green vest: Dorothy Perkins

Black skirt: New Look

Leggings: New Look

Pumps: Office

No VE day then . . .

I sat up all night and watched the results come in. It wasn't as thrilling as I'd expected so intersperced that with watching back episodes of Pineapple Dance Studios. This is a must watch for anyone! Finally at 5 o'clock this morning I headed to bed and awoke to find that not much had changed and the air of uncertainty remained.

I hope you all went out to vote and got there in time! I had a postal vote so missed out on the excitement of heading to the polling station and making my mark. I also missed the opportunity to go dressed in colours of allegiance but made the effort at home:

Oversized jumper: Primark

"Twas the night before . . ."

Election day, which was spent wishing bon voyage to my friend with cocktails and chocolates. A rather fitting evening for such a classy lady. I was in a playful mood so decided some cheek was in order and wore my "Hello Sailor" necklace. I did get a few looks which was amusing and generally had a fun night. The rest of the outfit was pretty casual as I have come to rely on dresses that can be thrown on and are great for any occasion:

Necklace: Topshop

SUSsed out

"The game has been dispanded, my mind has been expanded"

Taken from the Rocky Horror Show (no I didn't see it again) but referring to SUS, the play I saw last night at the Curve theatre in Leicester.

Two police officers are waiting for the election result, the year is 1979, the eve of Thather's appointment and the beginning of the Tory regime. A black man is arrested believing he is being detained under the new SUS law (stop and search on suspicion). The play was originally written over 30 years ago and based on a true and harrowing story, which is all too familiar for some. The play portrays the reality of life at that time but also showing that in 30 years progress towards racial equality has been slow. The post show discussion contained the usual fury at the police for invoking such laws and depicting black and now asian people as criminals and terrorists. I left feeling more informed and culturally enriched, always a good feeling!

A few weeks ago my granny saw my blog for the first time and was amused to see some of her clothing mentionned. This has led her to donate more items, including the white shirt I wore last night:

White shirt: Granny's vintage

Long sleeved top: H&M

Necklace: New Look

Jeggings: Dorothy Perkins

Extended weekend

Sunday was lounge day and spent entirely in pjs, mostly in bed, watching a marathon of House of Eliott dvd's. Bank holiday Monday was different. Driving with Elvis, which went well apart from my lack of ability to reverse bay park, but who needs that anyway? The afternoon was much more fun, shopping in Leicester for wedding outfit accessories and work clothes. I actually managed to find some peg leg trousers which fit! Joy of joy! Decided to wear my lace dress that hadn't seen the light of day for a while, mostly because I get visions of my sister and her friend wearing the same one:

Purple bead necklace: Primark

Cardigan: H&M

Lace dress: Primark

A regular fairytale

Major backlog of posts at the moment due to my laptop's recent visit to the hospital to get a replacement fan that doesn't make as much noise! Here is my transformation from Cindy to Princess Nadia:
